Demo Mode vs. Live Data Explained
When your dashboard shows a demo-data banner, it means the page is displaying sample data instead of your live account activity. This almost always happens because the dashboard temporarily could not reach the backend — and the banner is your signal to tell the two apart.
Why the banner appears
Every dashboard page loads its data by calling the G8KEPR backend when the page opens and when you return to it. If that call cannot complete — the backend is briefly unreachable, still starting up, or blocked by a network issue — the dashboard falls back to a built-in set of sample data so the interface stays fully usable instead of showing empty charts or an error screen.
While that fallback is active, you'll see the demo-data banner near the top of the page.
The banner is a status indicator, not an error. Charts, tables, and metrics still render normally so you can navigate and explore the layout — the numbers just aren't yours yet.
Demo data vs. live data
- ▸Demo data is representative sample content. It never reflects real requests, threats, or sensors in your account, and nothing you see there is stored to your account.
- ▸Live data is your organization's real activity, pulled from the backend. When the banner is gone, everything on the page is live.
How to get back to live data
- 1.Confirm the banner is present — that's how you know you're viewing samples.
- 2.Use the page's refresh action to reload its data. Some pages also show when they last updated successfully.
- 3.If the page has a live/paused auto-refresh toggle, make sure it's set to live so the page refetches its data when you reload or return to it.
- 4.Wait a few seconds and refresh again. Once the backend responds, the banner disappears and your real numbers load automatically.
If the banner persists across several refreshes and multiple pages, the backend is likely still unreachable from your network. Check your connection and any VPN or firewall between you and G8KEPR before reloading.
When to contact support
